CLIMATE CHANGE

NMEAC sponsored a program on October 25 of the series featuring energy expert Skip Pruss and climate change expert Peter Sinclair to raise awareness of these crucial issues. The programs are always well attended and we are fortunate to have such well educated and incredible presenters for these events. 

We are also monitoring the efforts of the GREEN TEAM who is creating a method for Traverse City to reach its ambitious goal of 100% clean energy to power all city buildings and facilities. 

NMEAC SOLAR INITIATIVE and TC100

NMEAC has been promoting the transition to solar energy for over seven years.

This year the effort expanded into a new group called TC100. The group includes Groundwork Center, TC350, Michigan Environmental Council, Citizens Climate Lobby, and SEEDS.

Last December we supported an important resolution by the Traverse City Commission to adopt a goal of moving to 100% clean energy for municipal needs by 2020. The motion was approved and as a result, a 1 MGW solar array was constructed near the windmill along M-72. We expect other solar arrays will be erected to help the city meet this important goal.
